3rd Annual Winter Fest

Gladys Friday, A dynamite dance band, headlines Polson’s Annual Winter Fest, Saturday, Feb 25, at the Elks Club Ball Room. The event begins at 5pm and is a fundraiser for Soup’s On, a free food program that serves a meal Mon-Thurs, from 11:00-1:30 pm at the Wander Inn, located just across from Dempsy’s Pawn Shop on 7th Ave West in Polson. The meal is always free and all are welcome. Mission Valley Dance will begin the evening with an energetic performance that will shake loose your winter cobwebs. They will be followed by Loreiei, performing hits from the 70’s. Gladys Friday will step up the sound, with a special 50/50 drawing held during the first intermission. This break will include a performance by Black Satin Revue, a talented local burlesque dance troupe. Admission is $, which includes a Fantastic Italian lasagne dinner. Children under 12 free. John White Lecture series

Celebrating the 10th Annual John White Lecture series every alternate Sunday in January & February at the Museum at Central School, located at 124 2nd Ave. E. Kalispell. Kate Kenday, a USGS research ecologist, has been studying Grizzly and black bears in the Northwest since 1997. Her innovative and non-invasive bear rub techniques have allowed Kate to develop DNA profiles that reveal bear population and genetic health.

State Winter Games, Special Olympics MT

The 17th annual, 42 year-old movement that enables children and adults with intellectual disabilities to train for life through sports, will conduct its State Winter Games March 4th – 6th, at the Whitefish Mountain Resort. Competitions will include Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing and Alpine Snowboarding. Also, special events such as the Parade of Athletes through downtown Whitefish, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Athlete Victory Banquet, Dance/Carnival, a Families Luncheon and much more. The public is invited to line Central Avenue from 3rd St. to Railway St. for the Parade of Athletes at 4pm. The Opening Ceremonies are in Depot Park. The roles and duties are many, requiring upwards of 250 volunteers to organize and prepare for the Games. For volunteer inquiries contact Karen at 837-0319.
