KALISPELL, Montana – Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Roundup for Safety Board of Directors awarded $5,749 to Habitat for Humanity of Flathead Valley to support safety enhancements for the organization’s volunteer workforce.
Habitat for Humanity relies on a large and diverse volunteer base to build safe and affordable homes for qualified families in Flathead County. To date, the organization has completed 74 homes, and by the end of this year the number is slated to reach 84.
Volunteers are critical to the organization’s mission and safety improvements will better support that workforce, according to Habitat for Humanity representatives who presented to the board at its March 12 meeting. Altogether, this strong culture of volunteerism contributes approximately 10,000 volunteer hours each year.
The Roundup for Safety grant will fund ladder safety enhancements designed to reduce risk and improve on-site safety conditions for volunteers working on construction projects.
In addition to the Habitat for Humanity award, Roundup for Safety grants were approved for the following organizations:
-
Whitefish Safe Grad Night — $660 – First aid kits
Roundup for Safety funding comes from Co-op members who choose to have their electric bills rounded up to the next dollar, with the extra change supporting local life safety projects. The program costs each member an average of about $6 per year, yet it has provided more than $5.5 million in community funding since 1997. To learn more, visit flatheadelectric.com/roundup.
