ANACONDA & DEER LODGE, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Montana Lines Inc. are resuming work on the Anaconda and Deer Lodge Signal Upgrades project the week of June 22, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.
Next week, crews expect to begin applying a seal and cover (chip seal) and temporary pavement markings to Main Street in Deer Lodge. Main Street will be restriped to include a center turn lane between California and Texas Avenue. Once work in Deer Lodge is complete, crews will move to Anaconda and begin applying a chip seal and new temporary pavement markings on Montana Highway 1 (MT 1) between Polk Street and North Cable Road.
“Originally we planned to wrap up work on this project in a single season but due to supply chain issues, we had to wait on the new traffic signals to arrive,” said Shane Clary, MDT’s Engineering Project Manager for the Butte District. “Work this year will only take a few weeks to complete and traffic impacts should be minimal.”
During construction, on-street parking will be temporarily disrupted. All vehicles parked on the streets within the work zone will need to be moved prior to chip sealing. Motorists can expect reduced speed limits and temporary lane closures, with flaggers or temporary signals directing traffic at times.
Last year in Deer Lodge, crews removed and replaced the traffic signal at the Main Street and Milwaukee Avenue intersection with an updated push-button signal for pedestrians. Additionally, curb ramps were upgraded to current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and Main Street was crack sealed.
