IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Project rehabilitating MT 35 between Creston and Bigfork has concluded

BIGFORK/CRESTON, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and LHC Inc. have completed work on the Creston South project, rehabilitating approximately 7 miles of Montana Highway 35 (MT 35) between Creston and Bigfork.

This year crews removed and repaved asphalt in the driving lanes of the project area. Additionally, a seal and cover (chip seal) and final epoxy paint markings were applied. Work on this project began in the fall of 2024 when crews crack sealed the roadway shoulders, added new shoulder rumble strips, and replaced signage on this section of the highway.

“MDT and our contracting partners at LHC Inc. would like to thank the public for their patience during the construction of this project,” said Ryan Paulsen, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “We worked with LHC to minimize project impacts to the traveling public by utilizing night work when possible, maximizing the amount of work completed each day.”

The purpose of this project was to extend the service life of MT 35, improve the ride of the existing pavement, and enhance roadway safety features.

This section of highway was originally constructed in 1957 and has seen increased use since that time. The last major reconstruction on this stretch of the roadway was in 1996, and since then it has only received minor repairs and maintenance. As a result, prior to rehabilitation the roadway surface was worn down and needed repairs.

This critical and cost-effective project will ensure the highway is in good repair and can continue to serve the traveling public for many years to come.

The public is encouraged to contact Tyler Manning at Tyler@rbci.net or 406-545-0800 with questions or comments about the project.
