IMMEDIATE RELEASE
US 2 intersection at Rose Crossing to close July 18 and 19
KALISPELL, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and LHC Inc. will temporarily close the intersection at Rose Crossing and U.S. Highway 2 (US 2) on July 18 and July 19 so crews can remove and replace pavement in the intersection.
US 2 passing lanes will remain open to north and southbound traffic during this closure; only east and westbound traffic will be disrupted. This intersection is anticipated to reopen to east and westbound traffic on July 20. During this 2-day closure, motorists should seek alternate routes such as Helena Flats Road and Trumble Creek Road.
The intersection of Birch Grove Road and US 2 will also be closed as part of this project in the future.
“This closure is necessary to allow crews to safely remove and replace the pavement while maintaining two directions of traffic flow,” said Ryan Paulsen, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “Crews will be working as quickly as possible and will reopen the intersection to east and westbound traffic as soon as possible.”
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate approximately 4 miles of US 2 between the Rose Crossing intersection and the Glacier Park International Airport.
Planned improvements include removing and replacing the pavement; adding a seal and cover (chip seal); crack sealing the roadway shoulders and median lane; adding a fog seal; upgrading existing curb ramps at the Rose Crossing intersection; resurfacing the Motor Carrier Services weigh station; electrical upgrades at Birch Grove Road and Rose Crossing intersections; adding shoulder rumble strips, new pavement markings, signage, and roadside delineators; and adding Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades at the intersection with Rose Crossing.
In addition to the closures, motorists should expect to encounter reduced speed limits, wide load restrictions at times, and delays of up to 15 minutes. At least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction on US 2.
Work on this project may take place 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday. Sunday work may be approved by the project manager on a case-by-case basis if requested by the contractor.
Construction on this project is anticipated to be completed by fall 2025.
