Public invited to open house to see plans, learn more
HOT SPRINGS, Mont. (April 30, 2026) – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in collaboration with Morrison-Maierle (MMI), announces the start of a sidewalk improvement project in Hot Springs. With construction scheduled to begin in 2027, the project will upgrade pedestrian infrastructure and enhance safety for all users, with a focus on providing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant connections to the downtown area.
Hot Springs has seen an increase in walking traffic due to local commuting patterns. MDT has selected this location for sidewalk enhancements to ensure that deteriorating routes are replaced with more accessible pathways for residents and visitors alike.
“Safety is MDT’s top priority,” MDT Missoula District Administrator, John Schmidt, said. “This sidewalk project will help provide safe, efficient infrastructure for the Hot Springs community well into the future.”
The project’s design will be finalized in 2026. Construction is currently expected to begin in spring 2027 and will continue throughout the year. Ahead of that time, the project team is inviting the public to an open house where attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming work and provide feedback.
