U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy introduced the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act to lower costs, protect consumer choice, and make the American Dream of homeownership more attainable for Montanans.
The bill repeals three burdensome provisions from the Democrats’ so-called Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which implemented radical environmentalist polices that forced state and local governments to adopt costly energy codes. The National Association of Home Builders estimates that these energy codes can create as much as $31,000 in additional costs for homebuyers.
“Skyrocketing energy and housing costs have pushed the American Dream of homeownership out of reach for too many hardworking Americans, and Joe Biden’s so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ only made things worse with radical climate cult mandates and reckless spending that fueled once-in-a-generation inflation. It’s time to repeal these costly Green New Scam policies to lower costs, empower homeowners to choose what’s best for them and their families, and make Montana and America affordable again. I appreciate my colleagues’ support in working to get this bill across the finish line and help clean up the mess left by the Biden Administration,” said Senator Sheehy.
Background
The Homeowner Energy Freedom Act repeals IRA sections 50122, 50123, and 50131. If left in place, these programs would seek to end the use of gas appliances, limiting choices for how Americans heat their homes and cook their meals. With the repeal of these misguided policies, the bill will restore choice for residents and local officials who best know their personal and community needs, combat the drive to restrict clean, energy-secure natural gas, and rescind any of the unobligated balances of any amount made available under these sections to ensure no further money is allocated to promoting misguided mandates designed to restrict consumer choice.
